PARTNERSHIP MEETINGS

We hope you found your child’s mid year report informative. Thank you to those parents who reached out to the classroom teacher to arrange a partnership meeting. These were not compulsory. If at any time you wish to meet with your child’s teacher please send them a message on seesaw and they will be able to arrange a meeting time with you. We do ask that you keep 8.30am – 9am each morning free for the teachers as this is when they check in with their learners and set up for the day.

SCHOOL CROSSING SIGNS

Have you noticed our new signs at the school crossing? They were very generously organised by LeBoy Hegotule and the company he works for, Directions, installed these for free.

This means our children no longer have to carry the heavy signs out to the crossing each day. Now they just have to unclip the signs and pull them down. LeBoy we appreciate you.

KAIPATIKI KAHUI AKO MATARIKI FESTIVAL

On Friday 9th August the annual Kaipatiki Kahui Ako Matariki Kapa Haka festival will be held at Glenfield  College. Bayview School is performing at 11.15am. Our kapa haka group is attending for the day so that they can watch other schools perform and be fully immersed in the experience. We hope many of you will be able to attend this event and cheer our group on. A big thank you to Sydney Haslem, Shelley Matuku and Adam Strickland for supporting this kaupapa.

BOOK FAIR

Our annual book fair is arriving on the 22nd August. It will be open for sales on Monday 26th August. This is the opportunity to purchase some amazing books from Scholastic to support your child with their reading. During this week we will be running some special activities starting with a book character dress up on Monday 26th August. During this week our learners will be engaging in a range of other book themed actities.

ETHNICITIES AT BAYVIEW SCHOOL:

Did you know that our ethnicities at Bayview School are changing. Our ethnic diversity is now:

NZ European – 46.1%

Chinese – 8.4%

NZ Māori – 7.9%

Filipino – 6.4%

South Korean – 4.3%

Other European – 3.6%

Indian – 3.1%

Tongan – 2.4%

African – 2.4%

Other cultures at Bayview School include: Cook Island Māori, Italian, Tokelauan, Australian, Vietnamese, Samoan, Niuean, Middle Eastern, British/Irish, Latin American, Sri Lanken, German, Polish, and Japanese.

We consider ourselves very lucky to live and work in such a diverse community where we can appreciate the similarities and differences our cultures bring to the community. Our children are lucky to be able to see other people’s perspectives which helps to broaden their world view.

At Bayview School our wonderful Sue Millett works with our English second language learners. We receive extra funding from the Ministry of Education to support these learners and at Bayview we use these funds to employ Sue.

We have recently been audited by the Ministry of Education regarding our ESOL programme and have received a glowing report around the work Sue does with both our learners and staff! Well done Sue!

YEAR 5/6 CAMP 2025:

Next year our Year 5 and 6 learners will have the opportunity to attend a five day camp at YMCA Camp Adair in the Hunua Ranges. Preparation for this is underway and very soon parents of learners who will be Year 5 or 6 in 2025 will be invited to a special meeting to find out more information.

Camp is an amazing opportunity for learners to challenge themselves and to try things we are unable to provide on our school site. Our learners always return from camp with wonderful memories and increased courage and confidence! For some children it is life changing as they see themselves in a different light and realise that their possibilities are endless if they are courageous enough to take the first step into something new!

In the past we have held a biannual 4 day camp but unfortunately providers do not allow 4 day camps anymore and we are moving to a five day camp in 2025. This has increased the cost of camp and over the next 3 terms (8 months) we will be holding some special fundraisers to help support with this. We thank you for your support around this.
