KIA ORA TEAM BAYVIEW
I don’t want to alarm anyone but there are only 5 weeks and 3 days left of school for 2024! Teachers are currently busy writing end-of-year reports for our learners and determining their progress and achievement over the year. We are building up to our time of celebration with prizegivings, graduations and end-of-year fun events all in the planning stage. We hope you will be able to join us for some or all of these celebrations.
SIMON ELLICE WALKWAY
From this week one of the fences down the Simon Ellis walkway into school is being replaced. The contractor will have to section this entrance off so he can safely build the fence. He will ensure the access is open from 8.30am – 9am each morning and from 2.45pm – 3.10pm each afternoon.
We apologise for any disruption this may cause but hopefully this can be built quickly and access can be fully restored.
CAMP CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER
Just a reminder to our learners currently selling chocolates to help pay off their camp fee for 2025, that all unsold chocolates and money are due back to school BY THURSDAY 14TH NOVEMBER.
If you have unsold chocolates and you are struggling to sell them please send them back to school as we have super sellers wanting more chocolates to sell. We would really like to have all the chocolates sold so we do not have leftover chocolate sitting around.
COLOUR RUN FUNDRAISER
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the colour run on Friday. It was an awesome event and all the kids (and adults) had a fun time! Thank you to our staff who organised this event and to the parents who came along and helped out. It takes a village!
ATHLETICS DAYS
We have two school athletics days coming up this term. Our first event for our 9-11 year olds is being held on Tuesday 12th November. This is an all day event and learners will have the opportunity to compete in a range of track and field events.
Our second event is for our 5-8 year olds and will be held on Wednesday 13th November from 11.30am. During this event our learners will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of track and field events suitable for their age and ability.
Our interschool athletics day is on Thursday 21st November and will be held at Birkenhead Athletics club for 9-11 year olds who win the school athletics events.
ONEPOTO CULTURAL FESTIVAL
The Onepoto Cultural festival is back this year with schools on the North Shore invited to celebrate the many cultures represented in our schools. This year we are sending our Kapa Haka group who are performing at 10.55am on the outside stage. This is held at Onepoto Primary School. We hope you are able to support our group. Thank you to Adam Strickland, Sydney Haslem and Shelley Matuku for providing this opportunity for our learners.
WE CARE CELEBRATION ASSEMBLIES
Every year we proudly present bronze We Care awards to our learners who have displayed our We Care values consistently throughout the year. Bronze can be awarded to any learner at Bayview School. We have assemblies coming up soon and if your child is being awarded a We CARE Bronze certificate your child’s teacher will be in touch with you to let you know so you can be present at the awards ceremony. The timetable for this is in the diary section of this newsletter.
PRIZEGIVING
On Monday 9th December we will be holding our school prizegiving. This will be held in our school hall and will start at 6pm. Doors will open at 5.30pm. If your child is receiving an award Mrs Matuku will be in touch with you with a special invite. Award recipients are expected to be in the correct school uniform for this event. Invites will be sent out via Seesaw to individual accounts. If we note you are not signed up to Seesaw we will send this via email.
YEAR 6 GRADUATION
Every year our Year 6 learners are invited to a special event to celebrate their graduation from Bayview School. This year the event will take place at Belong Church, 16B Poland Road, Glenfield on Wednesday 11th December. This is always a wonderful event that creates lifelong memories. Our Year 6 learners are currently learning a range of dances for the evening as part of the dance curriculum. This is a formal event for Year 6 learners and their families only.
LEAVING ASSEMBLY
On Monday 16th December we will be saying farewell to our year 6 learners and any other learners that will be leaving Bayview School at the end of 2024. This assembly will start just after 9am and will be held in our school hall.
If you know you are leaving can you please let the office know so we can ensure we write a leaving certificate and so that we can collect all your child’s belongings ready for their new school. You can email Shannon at [email protected]
CHRISTMAS EVENT
On Friday 6th December we will be holding our special Christmas event in the school hall from 5-7pm. During this evening our learners will act out the nativity play, our choir has been invited to sing some songs and we will try to sing some Christmas Carols together. Families are invited to bring a picnic dinner along to share. We ask that no food be consumed under the COLA so that the turf is kept clean. There will be some stalls under the COLA where you may find something special to gift for Christmas. The Bayview Community Centre is organising the stalls and Bayview School is organising the ‘entertainment’.
This is a special time for the community to come together to celebrate the year. We encourage you to bring along a neighbour or any elderly people in your vicinity as we know Christmas can be a lonely time for some people.

Term 4 Newsletter
Extra curricular sports:
We have kicked off the term with the start of Spring League Netball, Touch and the continuation of Basketball. We are really excited to have been able to enter two very full netball teams into the Spring League, as well as 5 Touch teams into the Harbour competition. Good luck to all players and a huge thank you to our volunteers.
Topcorner Kids After School Football:
Jack and the boys from Topcorner Kids came in last week to run some free sessions at break time for the Y0-2 and Y3-4 students. There was a lot of interest and the students really enjoyed themselves. Topcorner Kids provides an after school football programme here at Bayview School for those students wanting to learn or continue to play football. They have been running this programme for over a year now at school. Check out their website https://topcornerkids.co.nz/ for more information. We will add any promo information from Topcorner Kids on Seesaw.
ATHLETICS:
We are gearing up for athletics this term and classes are learning how to correctly complete high jump, long jump, discus and shot put. Mr Corbett will be getting the track marked out on the field so that we can practice our sprinting skills. Athletics will happen in week 5 followed by the Interschool Athletics for successful 9-11 year olds in Week 6. More information will follow in due course.
