KIA ORA TEAM BAYVIEW

There are 34 days until Christmas!! We are so grateful for warmer weather and actual sunshine. It is the time for hats and sunscreen though so please make sure your child is set for the day with their school hat and sunscreen applied before they get to school 🙂

SCHOOL RESOURCES

Over the next 4 weeks we are conducting a stocktake of our school resources. This includes library books, reading books, tokens, etc. Can you please check your child’s room and if they have any school resources please put them in their bag so they can return them to school.

Library Stocktake

Our library stocktake will be beginning on Friday 22nd November. This means all school library books are due back now. Please send these back to your child’s classroom this week.

Reading books

We need to ensure all our school readers are returned to the correct boxes before the end of this term. Can we please have all readers sent back to school by the beginning of December.

Tokens

We know the children love to earn tokens for being amazing while at school but we do need these returned please. The children get to vote for activities and library books and events when they earn a token. Please encourage them to bring them back to school and vote.

BIG DAY IN

Our annual Big Day In is back this year. This day is a celebration of the year where the children rotate around a range of activities including bouncy castles, a water slide, dance off competition, and possibly a throw a wet sponge at a teacher activity. This day is being held on Friday 13th December and is sure to be fun for everyone!

CAMP CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER

Wow this year we have had the most successful chocolate fundraiser for camp! Thank you to everyone who purchased a chocolate bar off a child. This has helped reduce their camp fee! It is awesome how our village comes together to support each other!

ATHLETICS DAYS

Thank you to everyone who managed to attend our athletics days. The children had a great time and showed some awesome skills.

ONEPOTO CULTURAL FESTIVAL

The Onepoto Cultural festival is tomorrow! This year we are sending our Kapa Haka group who are performing at 10.55am on the outside stage. This is held at Onepoto Primary School, 31 Fraser Avenue, Northcote, Auckland 0627. We hope you are able to support our group. Thank you to Adam Strickland, Sydney Haslem and Shelley Matuku for providing this opportunity for our learners.

WE CARE CELEBRATION ASSEMBLIES

Every year we proudly present bronze We Care awards to our learners who have displayed our We Care values consistently throughout the year. Bronze can be awarded to any learner at Bayview School. Also at these assemblies, our wonderful volunteers will be celebrated. These are the children who volunteer to do patrols, chain gang, library monitors, etc. If your child is being celebrated your child’s teacher will be in touch with you to let you know so you can be present at the awards ceremony. The timetable for this is:

Tuesday 3 December – Harakeke – Habitats 3, 9, 10, 13, 14, 18

Wednesday 4 December – Kauanuanu – Habitats 1, 4, 6, 11, 15, 17

Thursday 5 December – Pikorua – Habitats 2, 8, 12, 16, 19, 20

PRIZEGIVING

On Monday 9th December we will be holding our school prizegiving. This will be held in our school hall and will start at 6pm. Doors will open at 5.30pm. If your child is receiving an award Mrs Matuku will have already sent you a special invite (but she won’t tell you what your child may be receiving!). Award recipients are expected to be in the correct school uniform for this event.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION

This year our Year 6 graduation ceremony will take place at Belong Church, 16B Poland Road, Glenfield on Wednesday 11th December. This is always a wonderful event that creates lifelong memories. During this evening our Year 6 learners dress in their best clothes and enjoy a meal prepared for them by members of our staff. Teachers will wait on the Year 6’s during dinner. Dinner is followed by dancing and the presentation of special graduation certificates. Our Year 6 learners are currently learning a range of dances for the evening as part of the dance curriculum. This is a formal event for Year 6 learners and their families only.

LEAVING ASSEMBLY

On Monday 16th December we will be saying farewell to our year 6 learners and any other learners that will be leaving Bayview School at the end of 2024. This assembly will start just after 9am and will be held in our school hall.

If you know you are leaving can you please let the office know so we can ensure we write a leaving certificate and so that we can collect all your child’s belongings ready for their new school. You can email Shannon at [email protected]

CHRISTMAS EVENT

The Bayview Eco Warriors have been busy in the vegetable gardens this term! We are reaping the benefits of planting strawberries by harvesting delicious fresh berries. We also planted a crop of potatoes, which was a long process because we had to sprout the potatoes, plant them in the garden bed, then top up the garden bed when the potato plants grew tall green stalks and leaves. Did you know that these potatoes will be extra special as they are going to be served at the Year 6 graduation dance? We also enjoyed eating vegetable quiches made from the broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and celery we grew, mixed with eggs from our very own chickens.

Bayview Eco Warriors meet Wednesday morning tea, and cover all ages – everyone is welcome to join to be a kaitiaki, a gardener, a conservationist, and have fun!

CHRISTMAS EVENT🎄

On Friday 6th December we will be holding our special Christmas event in the school hall from 5-7pm. During this evening our learners will act out the nativity play, our choir has been invited to sing some songs and we will try to sing some Christmas Carols together. Families are invited to bring a picnic dinner along to share. We ask that no food be consumed under the COLA so that the turf is kept clean. There will be some stalls under the COLA where you may find something special to gift for Christmas. The Bayview Community Centre is organising the stalls and Bayview School is organising the ‘entertainment’.

This is a special time for the community to come together to celebrate the year. We encourage you to bring along a neighbour or any elderly people in your vicinity as we know Christmas can be a lonely time for some people.

Coach’s message:

Bayview Raiders Year 3-4 team have made the grand finals and will be playing for first and second on Tuesday at 4.50pm at Event Finda Stadium… would be awesome to get as much support as we can there 🙂

This team has grown so much over the season and are clicking as a team now and performing amazingly. So much so after their semi final win this week, the opposition coach approached me after the game to say how amazing the boys all played and how they played the game the way it should be. They showed respect to their team and were the best team they played at marking with the colour armband rule. Very proud of these boys. They have given this team everything they have  and continue to amaze me at their growth and passion for the game.

Bayview Warriors year 5-6: They have won their last 2 games and have all improved so much as individuals and as teammates, it’s so awesome to see. At the end of their last 2 games, the opposition coaches have approached me after the game to say how amazing my boys are playing, and how they have that passion for the game and play the game the way it should be played. All of them are locked in, focused and have shown great sportsmanship. If they keep this up, hopefully we can have them make the finals as well in a few weeks.

I can’t really put all of it into words how amazing these kids are and how much they have grown and continue to amaze me.
