Kia ora Team Bayview

What a fabulous start to the year we have had! Thank you all for your support and positivity to start the 2025 school year!

Ministry of Education teacher only days

This year the Ministry of Education have allocated 2 teacher only days for staff of state schools to undergo professional learning around the revised mathematics curriculum. The first of these TOD’s is on Friday 28th February. The school will be closed on this day.

The second TOD is on Friday 30th May (this is in term 2) and is the Friday before the Kings Birthday holiday (Monday 2nd June). We thank you in advance for your support around this.

Uniform

Shoes! We know it can be hard to transition from our summer jandals to appropriate work/school footwear. Our main concern is safety for our learners and having pride in what they wear. Our uniform policy states clearly that our learners are able to wear black or blue sandals or black shoes. This means the following footwear is NOT appropriate for school:

  • Crocs
  • Jandals
  • Boots
  • Wheelies
  • Gumboots
  • High heels

Mr Corbett

This year our wonderful caretaker Erik has gone down to working 4 days a week i.e. Monday – Thursday. Erik is amazing but has decided that the time has come to put himself and his family first! We miss him each Friday, but we are doing our best to act as caretaker on these days!

Grounds Beautification

You may have noticed a person working in our gardens over the past couple of weeks, or you may have noticed some of the gardens at the entrance to the school have had a trim! This is because we have employed the services of Jane Gibbons to be our grounds beautification person one day a week. If you see Jane and want to give her some positive feedback I know she would appreciate that!

School Policies

The Bayview School Board uses SchoolDocs to manage our school policies. The Bayview School policies are written and managed by the Bayview School Board. These are reviewed over a three year cycle. Our policies are available for everyone to see. To view our policies please log in to www.schooldocs.co.nz (Username: Bayview  Password: icare)

Long Bay Picnic

Thank you to all our parents, caregivers and friends of Bayview School that came along to our annual school picnic, especially those who were in the water supervising our tamariki. We appreciate your time and willingness to be involved. It was a great day. A huge thank you to PJ from Harcourts Cooper and Co for supporting us with drinks and fruit and the BBQ!

Welcome

A huge welcome to our new staff joining us for 2025. We have the wonderful Victoria Walsh teaching in Habitat 2 this year while Ms Corlett goes on maternity leave. We also welcome Bronnie Ryan our new ESOL teacher based in the ESOL room. We know you will make them feel very welcome!

Staff Changes

This Saturday our wonderful Rhianon McIntyre is marrying her long term partner Ben. She will then officially become Mrs Pearce. We wish her the very best for her wedding day! We can’t wait to hear all the stories. Whilst Rhi is on wedding leave Shannon Corlett will teach Habitat 10.

Friday 14th February is also the last day for our wonderful Tegan Cheeseman. Tegan has taken on the role of facilitator for the structured literacy platform iDeaL. This is the platform Bayview School uses and Tegan has been instrumental in introducing this to our teachers and learners. At this stage Tegan is performing this role for 12 months. We wish her every success with this new role. It is not goodbye as Tegan will return to Bayview to continue the facilitation of the programme for us. We know you will join us in wishing her well.

Communication

Firstly thank you for reading the newsletter. We send this out every fortnight through our school website where you can subscribe to receive it in your emails. In our newsletter we try to share important messages, celebrate our successes and share upcoming events with you.

Our main portal for communications is Seesaw. We use this application (app) for most of our communications. Teachers can communicate directly with you and with parents of the whole class. We can also send important notices and reminders schoolwide. It is important that you can access this app and your child’s teacher should have shared a QR code with you so you can connect with the 2025 class. If you are struggling to get this working please come and chat with your child’s teacher.

School Payments

Any payments required for school events i.e. camp, fundraising, sports fees, etc can be paid via Kindo. This is the system also used for purchasing your child lunch (ezLunch). You can download the ‘mykindo’ app and it will walk you through how to sign up. It is the easiest way to make payments (and it accepts credit cards). If you have trouble with this Shannon in the office will be able to help you.

Road Safety

Thank you to the wonderful parents who are teaching their children to cross Bayview Road at the pedestrian crossing. You are amazing role models!

I have noticed some people parking on the yellow lines outside the school, especially in the mornings. Please note this prevents the pedestrian crossing from working safely as your vehicles block the patrollers view. Please find a space to park properly outside the school. What you do makes a difference.

Gates

Thank you to everyone using the gates in the morning and afternoon. We do have monitors on these gates but sometimes they are away or things get forgotten. If you enter or leave the school after 9am or before 3pm please remember to close the gate after you. This helps keep our learners safe.

Smoke Free

Did you know that all state schools in Aotearoa are smoke and vape free? We kindly remind you that you are not permitted to smoke nor vape on the school grounds. Thank you for being a positive role model for our learners.

Illness

We currently have a bit of covid going through the school and some learners with conjunctivitis! Both of these illnesses are highly contagious and conjunctivitis requires prescription medicine. Thank you for your help with this. Just a reminder that you can lodge an absence on our website or leave a message on our answerphone.
