There are definitely signs that autumn is on it’s way with the cooler mornings and later sunrise. This is the time many school jackets get misplaced as the children wear them out to play, get hot, take them off and forget to collect them when they return to class. If your child’s clothing is clearly labelled we are usually able to return it.
Building Works
Thank you for your patience and understanding as Habitats 1, 8, 9, and 10 were refurbished. We are at the end of this now with just a few little finishing touches to be completed. We know these classes are going to love their new learning spaces.
Bake Sale
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our bake sale last week. This was a fundraiser for camp to help pay for the adults attending as we pay for their food and accommodation.
Please note we have an ice-block fundraiser scheduled for Friday 21st March and again on Friday 4th April. Ice-blocks can be purchased through EZlunch for $2 each. Please note they are lemonade ice-blocks.
Road Safety
We would just like to remind our community of our key road safety messages.
No Stopping
- On yellow lines
- Over or in driveways
- In the lower carpark
Limit Your Speed
- At drop off and pick up times
- The speed limit around our school is 40km/hr
Road Crossing Behaviour
- Please model appropriate behaviour at the patrolled crossing.
- Only cross in safe locations i.e. at the crossing.
- Do not call out to your child from across the road.
- Remember that the behaviours you display around road sense is what your child will follow.
Staff Carparks
- Please do not use the staff carparks for picking up or dropping off your child.
- To enter the bottom carpark you will need a 2025 carpark pass.
- Bullying the monitors to let you in this carpark is not ok!
We are a travelwise school and encourage learners to walk to school or to be dropped off and to walk themselves into the school gates. We work alongside Auckland Transport and we utilise their wardens when we note irresponsible behaviour. You may see them at drop off or pick up times monitoring the behaviour of cars. Please note these wardons have the ability to write a parking ticket if you are not following the road rules.

Disco
We have our first disco for 2025 coming up on Friday 21st March. Hopefully you received the special note about this. Payments can be made via EZlunch or at the school office.
Here are the details, just in case:
Friday 21st March
5pm – 6.30pm
Entry ticket + glow stick $5
Entry ticket + glow stick + lolly bag + drink + bag of chips $10
Theme – Movie Characters
Extra food and drinks available

Attendance
Our attendance rate for last week was 93%.
This is a great attendance rate but we can do better! Please remember to complete an absence form from our website or phone the school office if your child is absent from school. If we don’t hear from you, the office will try to make contact by sending a text to the mobile number we have on record. If we can’t get hold of you, your child will be marked as truant.
Please keep in mind that overseas holidays taken during term time are considered an unjustified absence from school.
Shore to Shore
On Sunday, 6th April, Harbour Sport is running the annual Shore to Shore event. You can win lots of prizes just by entering! You can register for this online. Follow this link for all the information you need to register: https://shoretoshore.co.nz/

Daylight Savings
Daylight saving finishes at 2 am on Sunday, 6th April! Put your clocks back one hour.

Partnership Meetings
In the week starting 31st March, we will be holding our end of term 1 partnership meetings. This is an opportunity for you to come in and meet with your child’s teacher to discuss how they have settled into school, how they are progressing with their learning, and how you can support them to achieve their best. Teachers will be reaching out in the next few weeks to invite you to arrange a meeting at a mutually suitable time. These meetings are not compulsory, but we encourage you to take the time to meet so you know what is happening for your child. We value your support with your child’s education and know this is strengthened when we have open and honest communication.
CAMP ’25
From the 7th to 11th April our Year 5/6 learners will head off to YMCA Camp Adair in the Hunua Ranges. Due to high numbers of learners at this level, the camp is full! We have lots of very excited learners alongside some anxious learners. We know they will have a great time and will be well supported by the parents and staff who are in attendance.
Please note: On the morning of the 7th April, there will be a higher volume of cars in and around Bayview School as parents drop campers off with all their gear. Please be safe and patient, as one day, this will be your child!
Our campers return at lunchtime on Friday, 11th April. Please drive safely around the school as children are coming and going.
Year 4 Stayover
On Wednesday, 9th April our brave Year 4 learners will be having a stayover in the school hall. This aligns with our EOTC activities during term 1. On the afternoon of the 9th April (at around 6pm) there will be an increase in traffic around the school as our Year 4 learners are dropped off with their sleeping gear. They will then get picked up with all their gear on Thursday, 10th April at 3pm. Once again I ask you for your patience and understanding around this.
End of Term 1
Please note term 1 finishes at 2pm on Friday, 11th April.
Please note this is the day our Year 5/6 learners return to camp, so there will be increased traffic around the school as parents pick up tired children and all their gear!
