Road Safety
We have received some great feedback about our road safety campaign around the school at drop off and pick up. We really appreciate the support but also the suggestions on how to make things safer. Something that has come up regularly is having a dedicated drop off/ pick up zone. We have investigated this with Auckland Transport in the past and they told us at that time it was not suitable for our school. I am reaching out to them again to see if things have changed. This is something only Auckland Transport can action.
Have you considered parking in Simon Ellice Road (at the back of the school) and using the entrance to the school that is there? There is always parking there and is not as congested as Bayview Road is. Alternatively you could park in Lynn Road and walk your child into school. This is a great time to chat about their day.
Partnership Meetings
Next week we are holding partnership meetings at school where you and your child are able to come in and chat with your child’s teacher about how they have settled into school for the year, how they are engaged with their learning and how they are tracking with their learning. Teachers will have already invited you to make a time to meet.
You may notice that your child’s achievement level looks different compared to previous years. This is because the New Zealand Curriculum expectations have been raised, with key learning areas now introduced earlier than before. These changes are designed to improve student outcomes and support accelerated progress.
While some students may currently be working below the new expectations, this does not mean they are not progressing—it simply reflects the shift in what is now expected at each year level. As always, our focus is on ensuring every child receives the right support to succeed.
A strong partnership between home and school is more important than ever. Together, we can help your child navigate these changes and thrive in their learning journey. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Student Leaders
On Friday we announced our school student leaders. This year we have changed the organisation for this. Instead of having house captains we now have student leaders distributed across our house systems but who have strengths in different areas such as eco warriors, travelwise, sports, the arts, etc. Our learners and our staff had a say as to who would become a student leader. I am proud to announce the following leaders for 2025.
