KIA ORA TEAM BAYVIEW
We are now in the final days of term 1! How time flies!
PARTNERSHIP MEETINGS
Thank you to everyone who was able to come along to a partnership meeting to discuss how your child is progressing with their learning. It was lovely to see so many of you!
SCHOOL POLICIES
All our school policies are developed and owned by the Board of Trustees. These can be found on www.schooldocs.co.nz (Username: Bayview Password: icare). All our school policies are reviewed regulary by the board and by lawyers associated with SchoolDocs our database provider. When you enrol at Bayview School you sign an enrolment form which says you agree to abide by all school policies so it is worth checking these out.
POSITIVE CULTURE 4 LEARNING
At Bayview school, one of our PC4L procedures includes our token voting system. Every day, teachers identify and recognise students displaying our school We CARE values by rewarding them a school token of their house colour. The student then gets to vote for something to happen in the school. Each week, a new class gets to decide what our students will vote for, this could be new sports equipment, new school resources, an area in the school that needs improvement, or a fun activity that involves the students and teachers. Students then get rewarded for positive behaviour, and get to make a positive difference around the school.
Nathan Hinton and Rhianon Mcintyre – Leaders of PC4L
SCHOOL LIBRARY
All classes visit our school library once a week as part of our literacy learning. During these times students learn how to use the library and have some time to browse for books of their choice. All students are allowed to issue two books a week. These are due back one week after issuing.
Our library is also open at first and second break each day. Many students choose to spend their break in the library reading, playing board games or just having some quiet time. Year 5 and 6 librarians are on duty to help issue/return books, read with younger students and support students to use the library.
Overdue books reminders are given out to learners a few times a term. We currently have many books that are still overdue from last year. Overdue slips for these will be coming home shortly. If you are able to find the book, please return it to your class teacher. Lost or damaged books will need to be paid for or replaced at your own cost. These can be paid for at the school office, or by sending the correct amount of money in an envelope to your child’s classroom pink box. If you are able to find the same book for cheaper, you can also send in a replacement book to the office.
Beginning in term 2, we would like to invite any grandparents of our learners to come into the library on a regular basis to read to the children during break times. Our break times are 10:45am – 11:10am and 1:00pm – 1:25pm each day. If you or a family member would be interested in taking part in this, please contact Janelle Staples (Habitat 6) [email protected].

TERM 2 DATES TO NOTE
During term 2 we have some dates you need to be aware of. The first is 4th June which is a Ministry of Education Teacher Only Day. On this day the teachers will be immersed in professional development. This is the day after the King’s birthday holiday. The second date is Monday 1st July which is another teacher-only day where all staff will be attending the Kaipatiki Kahui Ako conference. The school will be closed for instruction on both of these dates.
There is also Aotearoa’s annual Matariki holiday on Friday 28th June.
KIWI KAI CAFE:
Breakfast club, now known as the Kiwi Kai Cafe, opened up 2 weeks ago. It is overseen by Katrina Cray and Alfie Luque and is run by our fabulous House Leaders. Head chef Astrid Brocklesby has said that it has been a positive start and lots of children have been coming to have breakfast before school.
Kiwi Kai Cafe is open at 8:30am every morning and is set up outside the hall kitchen. Any child who is in need of breakfast is welcome to come along to eat and chat amongst friends. Sanitarium has kindly provided Weet-Bix and Fonterra has given us milk. We have also had other donations of cereal and bread and the leaders are currently in the process of creating a menu.
All donations are welcome!

POLICE BLUE LIGHT ACTIVITY DAY
Yesterday we had the NZ Police Blue Light Activity team come and run a special day at the school. It was awesome and many of our kids made lifetime memories! We all watched the Eagle helicopter land on the school field and listened to a chat from the crew. Who knew the police helicopter had a siren?! Our Year 5/6 learners played a special game of football against a police team, the refereeing may have been a bit loose, but Bayview won 3-1 (the Police scored an own goal 🤦)! Our Year 3/4 learners got to see the police dog handlers in action and had a chat about what they do. Our Year 1/2 learners met ‘Siren’ and found out how the police can help us. A huge thank you to our parents who cooked the BBQ and distributed the sausages at first break eating time! All the money raised will be used to support youth programmes in the area.
SCHOOL DISCO
We have our first disco for the year tonight, Friday 5th April, from 5.30pm – 7pm. We know our children will have fabulous manners. The theme is favourite movie character. There will be chips, drinks and lollies for sale and the chance to have nails painted, hair sprayed, and faces painted. Please send your child along with some coins if they would like to purchase any of these things.
PLEASE NOTE: All children must be picked up by an adult at 7pm.

SPORTS UPDATE:
TOUCH:
Thank you to all of the students and coaches who participated in the Kaipatiki Junior Touch module with North Harbour. This ran for 6 weeks and we entered 2 Y3/4 teams and 1 Y5/6 team, coached by ex pupils Kayleigh Limu and Danica Ferguson. Thanks girls for taking on this responsibility with such a big team! The next module will be run again in term 4. Look out for registrations in term 3.
BASKETBALL:
Basketball (miniball) has started off with a great start and the teams are doing really well. We have entered 5 teams and look forward to getting the updates from the teams | coaches throughout the semester.
26/3/24: Coach report: Bayview Raiders: Y3/4
The Bayview Raiders played tonight and unfortunately lost 16-6. The score doesn’t reflect how they played. They all rebounded like we asked them to and they played their hearts out…. definitely some tired kids tonight.
Player of the day: Cooper Purvis: he did everything we asked of him and he easily had 10 rebounds or more, hustled on defense and made good passes all game.
Another standout was Reign for his hustle on defense and he made some good shots – he gave it all!
Super proud of them and the way they are playing as a team. Thanks coach Jason 🙂
NETBALL NORTH HARBOUR:
Netball registrations close this week and it looks like we have enough players to enter some teams into the winter competition. This will be confirmed later in the week. The season starts at the beginning of term two. Thanks to everyone who has signed up!
Glenfield College Sports day:
In week 11, some of our Year 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to play against our cluster schools in a sports day, organised and run by the Year 13 students and teachers at Glenfield College. The sports that will be played include netball, touch and football. Students participating on this day will receive a notice this week. Tune in to the next newsletter where we can share our results with you.
