KIA ORA TEAM BAYVIEW

Welcome back to a very busy term 4! We have an exciting term filled with many celebrations and events that highlight the great work our staff and learners do.

Over the next four weeks teachers will be completing assessments on all learners to determine their progress and achievement this year. Teachers will then be writing end of year reports for each learner which are being sent home on Monday 16th December.

CAMP CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER

Next year our Year 5 and 6 learners will be attending a 5 day school camp at Camp Adair in the Hunua Ranges. To help with camp costs the children will be selling chocolates from 17th October until 14th November. 80 cents from each chocolate bar sold goes towards paying a child’s camp fee. In the past, we have had children totally pay for their camp through this fundraiser. We hope you can support a child to go to camp by purchasing a chocolate bar or 2!

COLOUR RUN FUNDRAISER – 1.45pm Friday 1st November

On Friday 1st November we will be holding a whole school colour run. We are using the ‘Go Raise Fun Run Fundraising’ platform for this event. You can find this here: https://bayviewschoolcolourrun.raiseit.co.nz/ All profit for this will go towards creating a special playspace in our central courtyard. Please note that during the fun run students are invited to wear a white T-shirt as during the run they will be covered in colourful dye. This is always a fun day and we hope you can join us!

NZ SHAKE OUT DAY

Today we participated in the NZ Shake Out day. This is an opportunity to practice what to do in an earthquake. Our learners were amazing and followed our procedures extremely well. Do you have a plan at home? This is the perfect opportunity to decide as a family what you would do in the event of an emergency. Where would you cover and hold in an earthquake? Which doors could you exit your house in during a house fire? Where would you gather as a family once everyone is out of the house? It is always good to have a plan, just in case!

ATHLETICS DAYS

We have two school athletics days coming up this term. Our first event for our 9-11 year olds is being held on Tuesday 12th November. This is an all day event and learners will have the opportunity to compete in a range of track and field events.

Our second event is for our 5-8 year olds and will be held on Wednesday 13th November from 11.30am. During this event our learners will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of track and field events suitable for their age and ability.

Our interschool athletics day is on Thursday 21st November and will be held at Birkenhead Athletics club for 9-11 year olds who win the school athletics events.

OUT-OF-ZONE ENROLMENTS

Out of zone enrolments have now closed for the 2025 academic year. If you have submitted an application then you will receive a letter from us stating if you have been successful or not. If you are successful you will be offered a position and must accept this to secure your spot for 2025.

TEACHER ONLY DAY

Just a reminder that on Tuesday 29th October we will be holding a teacher only day. The school will be closed for instruction on this day.

Go Raise It Colour Fun Run Fundraiser:

The term started with the launch of the Go Raise It Colour Fun Run Fundraiser. This is a very exciting fundraiser that not only raises money towards a new interactive play area for the juniors, but also invites everybody to get involved and join in on the day!

This year we are having a House competition and we are all desperately trying to win the House Shield at the end of the term by getting the most donations! The leaderboard is constantly changing! Not only that, the winning house also gets a fun afternoon at school doing…(this is still a secret!) There are also individual prizes as well for those who raise the most money. Good luck to all of you!

Last Friday we did our first major spot prize draw and this was given to a student for just signing up! This week we will be continuing to draw out names and handing out smaller spot prizes each day. Sign up by 10am Friday the 25th October and get at least one donation to go in the draw to win Wireless Earbuds!!

THE COLOUR RUN IS ON FRIDAY 1ST OF NOVEMBER AT 1:45PM – 3:00PM ON THE FIELD.

Extra curricular sports:

We have kicked off the term with the start of Spring League Netball, Touch and the continuation of Basketball. We are really excited to have been able to enter two very full netball teams into the Spring League, as well as 5 Touch teams into the Harbour competition. Good luck to all players and a huge thank you to our volunteers.

Topcorner Kids After School Football:

Jack and the boys from Topcorner Kids came in last week to run some free sessions at break time for the Y0-2 and Y3-4 students. There was a lot of interest and the students really enjoyed themselves. Topcorner Kids provides an after school football programme here at Bayview School for those students wanting to learn or continue to play football. They have been running this programme for over a year now at school. Check out their website https://topcornerkids.co.nz/  for more information. We will add any promo information from Topcorner Kids on Seesaw.

ATHLETICS:

We are gearing up for athletics this term and classes are learning how to correctly complete high jump, long jump, discus and shot put. Mr Corbett will be getting the track marked out on the field so that we can practice our sprinting skills. Athletics will happen in week 5 followed by the Interschool Athletics for successful 9-11 year olds in Week 6. More information will follow in due course.
